The Last Flickers of Sunset

As the sun had all but faded

a spooky night before Halloween sky emerged…

Last Flickers of the Sunset

For this week’s Photo Challenge, stimulate your creative process and imagine which of your images you would like to see gracing the cover of a book, an album, or a magazine. Would the image inspire us to take a peek through the pages, listen to the music, or buy a ticket to the show? Would it strike a chord with viewers, making them reflect on or revisit memories of places, people, and experiences?

Another great night for sunsets in Southern California

Beautiful Morning at Malibu Creek State Park

Today was a great day to get out and hike. I can’t remember when I saw so many people out and about. This is the first shot of many I need to sort through from today’s hike.

Reflection of a Refraction

For this photo challenge, show us what “refraction” means to you. It could be an image taken in a reflective surface, it could be light bent from behind an object, or it could mean remedial math homework: the choice is completely up to you. I’m looking forward to seeing how you interpret “refraction.”

refraction reflectionThe above picture was a surprise to both my daughter and I. We had set up the candle in to catch refractions from the crystal candle holder. What we noticed was the rainbow effect that showed up in the LCD TV on the wall.

Below without the reflection, are the type of pictures we expected to get.

IMG_1713During the Drive home from school today my daughter and I were talking about the refraction challenge & she was giving me some ideas of things around the house that refract. Sure enough when we got in the house there was a rainbow on the couch! I’m thinking it’s due to the duel pane windows because otherwise there is nothing special about them.

Lake Refractions

This was a simple shot taken with my iPhone 5. All I did was throw a handful of pine needles into the reflection of the sun on the lake. To me, it looks like the refraction is actually taking place underwater.

Firey Refractions Pt2This was sky just before the picture below was taken. I had no time to drive anywhere so I walked out to the main street and improvised the shot with the trees. About 10 yards to the left was the freeway on-ramp and some bridge construction. I was walking back to the car when I noticed the sun starting to set behind the trees. I guess it proves the point you will never get the great shot sitting in the house. Unless you are looking for an interior shot. :]
